possessive articles: singular – accusative

by Claudia Hildebrandt

‎ 1. Possessive articles in singular accusative are very similar to those in Nominativ.

Changes only occur for possessive articles for nouns with the article DER.

2. You already know that the verb tells you which object follows. Either an accusative, or a dative or both objects could follow.

3. You learned that in accusative the article for a masculine noun changes like this:

  • der=> den =>Ich sehe den Hund.
  • ein => einen => Ich habe einen Hund.

4. Consequently, we have to adjust the possessive article as well.

  • mein => meinen => Ich liebe meinen Hund.

5. That’s it! For DAS and DIE nothing changes. It’s just like in Nominativ.

  • Das ist ein Hund. => Das ist mein Hund.
  • Das ist eine Katze. => Das ist meine Katze.

REMEMBER: Always read the sentences out loud and DO the recording exercises.
